Song of the Day: The Smiths, “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out”
Maybe it's because Johnny Marr's new album just came out last week, but the Smiths have been in my head lately, namely "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out." The song was originally released in 1986 as part of the band's third album, The Queen is Dead, and was slated to be a single then, but was passed over in favor of "Bigmouth Strikes Again." Despite being considered one of the Smiths best songs, it didn't actually get released as a single until 1992 (for promotion of one of the band's "best of" compilations).
Fun fact: The footage for the video was used to promote several other Smiths songs, including "I Started Something I Couldn't Finish" and "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before."
