Okkervil River, I Am Very Far [live @ NPR]
Okkervil River will perform its upcoming album, I Am Very Far, in its entirety tomorrow on NPR at 7:00 Eastern Time. I previously posted a live performance of lead single "Wake and Be Fine" here, so now we'll be treated to a preview of the rest of the album tomorrow.
I found "Wake and Be Fine" to be somewhat of a surprising departure from the last few Okkervil River albums, and while my initial impression was not overly positive, I found that the song began to grow on me with repeated listens. I have a sneaking suspicion that the rest of the new album will be similar in that regard. I Am Very Far is due for release on May 10.

When you originally posted the link to the live Okkervil performance, I was excited for the album. I’d never heard of them before. But I picked it up a few weeks ago (because of “Wake and Be Fine”) and I’ve been on a huge OR kick since. Lost Coastline blared on my radio as I drove from Philly out to Indiana… so poignant. I’m deep.
Anyway, if you don’t like “Wake and Be Fine,” then make a like a tree and get the hell out of here!

“Lost Coastlines” might be the best song I’ve ever heard. By the way, the chap singing the deeper parts in that song is Jonathan Meiberg. He’s not in Okkervil River anymore, but has his own band, Shearwater.
